Fall Creek was the vision of Ed and Susan Auler, pioneers in the Texas wine industry. An amazing team supports their vision and works handily to craft world-class wine and welcome wine lovers.
Ed and Susan Auler, Founders & Owners
Ed and Susan founded Fall Creek Vineyards in 1975, and have worked ardently the past 40+ years to build a viable and successful Texas winery. Inspired on a trip to France, Ed and Susan returned to Texas with the ambition to make Texas a world-recognized wine region. Ed and Susan have never been deterred by a challenge, so they set off to “grow a Texas Wine Tradition”. As the original wine-growers of Texas grapes, they have put their heart and soul into creating a Texas wine industry, while Ed used his legal practice to aid in writing the early laws regulating Texas wine. Susan created the Texas Hill Country Wine & Food Festival, as a promotional tool to establish the Texas Hill Country as a known viticultural region. Ed used his legal expertise to create the “Texas Hill Country” appellation, certified by federal law in 1990 and received the “Qualia” and Merit Awards from TWGGA. Susan, through her wine promotional efforts was named, “one of the Top 50 people in the Wine World" by Wine & Vines Magazine. Known as the “First Family of Texas Wines,” Ed and Susan continue to focus on 100% terroir-driven wines, rooted in the best Texas soils, and crafted by their talented wine-making team.
Sergio Cuadra, Director of Winemaking
Sergio began his professional career of winemaking and love of winegrowing in 1994 when he worked his first harvest. He was chosen to make wine at of the most renowned Chilean wineries, Concha y Toro and Caliterra (Mondavi’s Chilean partnership), sister company of Errazuiz, in his homeland, Chile. During this 19-year accomplished tenure, he met and worked with talented and influential people like the French family of Jacque Lurton, Australian Kim Milne, MW, and California’s most sought after consultant Paul Hobbs. Wines of limited release have become his focus because he feels the deeper sense of origin showcases the true taste extraction of the grape. In the summer of 2013, providence brought Sergio Cuadra and Fall Creek together courtesy of an introduction by Paul Hobbs. Shortly after, Sergio relocated to Texas along with his lovely wife and 5 children, bringing with him his global knowledge and wealth of experience.
Phil Price, Winemaker
Phil joined Fall Creek Vineyards in 2016 to apply world-class techniques to craft fine wines with minimal inputs, that embody the ecology of the Texas vineyards. His most recent assignment allowed him to work with top winemaker, Philippe Melka, at BRAND Napa Valley, where he served as cellar master. Before moving to Napa, he dedicated four years to the Niven Family Wine Estates in San Luis Obispo, where Phil worked as cellar lead and supervisor to assist winemaker, Christian Roguenant. While Phil worked harvests, he attended Cal Poly’s graduate program for Wine and Viticulture where studied the effects of shoot tipping during bloom on yield, maturity, and wine quality. Phil was introduced to the wine industry in 2007, when he and his family decided to plant wine grapes on their family farm in TN during his sophomore year at the University of the South: Sewanee while studying ecology. He spent 6 years managing his family’s vineyard and 3 years making wine from their grapes. Phil has come a long way from pressing family fruit in a brand-new janitor’s bucket in Tennessee, to dragging hoses and solidifying cellar practices in SLO, to receiving 95-100 Robert Parker scores on Prichard Hill, and to helping advance the frontier of the Texas Hill Country wine industry.
